The Great Adventures of Timmy and Roger the Raccoon
Timmy and Roger the Raccoon were the best of friends. They were almost inseparable, and did everything together. They ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner together, they played outside, and they read books together.
Roger was not a big raccoon, but he had a lot of energy. He was always running around the house, wearing a mask, and pretending to be one super hero or another. He had a thick grey coat, which kept him warm all the time, and he had long claws that weren’t too sharp, but allowed him to crawl over all the furniture, and climb up walls.

One thing that Timmy and Roger could not do together was go to school (because raccoons don’t go to school, of course). As much as Roger didn’t like it, he had to say goodbye to Timmy for six hours a day while he went to first grade and learned about numbers and letters and dinosaurs. But one of the highlights of the day was when Roger heard Timmy come home from school and open the door, and Roger would rush down the stairs as fast as possible to greet him.
While he was gone, Timmy would give Roger the great responsibility of watching over his bedroom and making sure that no one tried to invade it. Roger took this job very seriously and so far had prevented anyone from entering the room while Timmy wasn’t there.

On this particular morning, rays of light shone through the window and woke Roger up. He quickly jumped on Timmy’s bed and woke him up. Timmy jumped out of bed, took Roger under his arm, and rushed downstairs for breakfast. There on the table sat two plates, both full of pancakes, eggs, bacon, and sausage. Roger ate up everything on the plate, and was the fullest he had ever been. He wanted to just sit in his chair and relax, but he knew that he needed to get on guard duty while Timmy went to school. The two of them headed back upstairs.
Timmy pulled up the same chair that he did every day, and put a comfy pillow down for Roger to sit. He put him in place, and went off to school.
While he was posted on the chair, Roger liked to imagine that he was a guard, watching over some top-secret government building, and that the future of his country was in his hands. He kept day-dreaming, imagining what the life would be like, or what he would do if someone tried to sneak in. But because of all the food he ate, he was very tired, and soon drifted off to sleep…
When Roger awoke, the late afternoon sun was shining through the window, making his entire body warm. He opened his eyes just a bit, but decided he was too comfortable and too tired to get up from his nap just yet, and so closed his eyes. He thought back to his delicious breakfast, Timmy leaving for school, and…
OH NO! Just then, he jumped up from his sleeping position, realizing that he had fallen asleep on his guard duty! He sat upright as fast as possible, and saw that there was nothing out of the ordinary in front of him – but he didn’t think to turn around.
While he was facing out the doorway, he suddenly heard a quiet shuffling noise behind him. It sounded to him like a mouse trying to move quietly across the floor, but he decided to turn around just to be safe. There, walking across the rug toward him, was a line of the three toughest, meanest, and greenest army-men he had ever seen. Roger was so scared that he couldn’t even move. Then, one of them spoke.
“Excuse me sir, are you the leader of these lands?” the one in the middle asked.
“Um, what? N-no…” Roger managed to say. “This is, um… This is Timmy’s room…”

“Ah, I see. Well, I suppose I should inform you that we are, as of now, taking over this room. It is now ours,” the soldier said, his face remaining emotionless. It was then that Roger looked up at the rest of the room. On every flat surface imaginable in the room, there stood hundreds upon hundreds of fierce, green army-men. Some were holding guns, some manning cannons and some were even tending to airplanes and heavy artillery. Roger’s eyes kept wandering around the room from one group to the next as they lead him over to one of the corners, where they made him sit.
Just then, Roger heard the front door open and close, and convinced his captors to let him go talk to Timmy. They let him go, and so he rushed down the stairs as fast as he possibly could. Timmy was very excited to see Roger, but Roger had to tell him everything. He told him about the nap, the army men, and how they claimed the room was now theirs’. Timmy sat down on the bottom stair, looking defeated and unsure what to do.
“Don’t worry, Timmy,” Roger said, “I have a plan.” And so, Roger told him what he was going to do.
After he finished, Timmy got up, and walked back up the stairs into his room. When he got to the door of his room, he began talking to all the army men who had occupied the space.
“Welcome to my home, all of you,” he said in the nicest way possible. “I will admit defeat, because I can see that you truly have the upper hand in this situation.”
“Good, I’m glad you have made the right decision,” said the General in charge. He then walked over to Timmy, and shook his hand. “I will let you continue to live here, but you must follow my rules, which will come into effect immediately.”
“Very well,” Timmy said. “But let’s not talk about that yet. Please, let me give you a tour of the house, so you know how to get around. Would you like me to do that?”
“Sounds good,” he said. Then he turned toward his men in the room. “Men! In formation! Moving out!” Suddenly, what seemed like thousands upon thousands of little green men were suddenly marching together, all in perfectly straight lines. Timmy was impressed.
They made there way into the hall, where Timmy showed them their family portrait and other pictures on the wall. They made their way downstairs, where Timmy showed them the living room, the dinning room, the kitchen, and even the bathroom. He gave them a quick tour of the backyard as well, and then came back inside.
“Ok, I think that’s about it,” Timmy said. “The only place I haven’t shown you is the family room upstairs, would you like to see that?”
The Army said they would, and so they made their way back upstairs. Timmy waited for them all to reach the top, and then ushered them into the family room. Once they were all in, standing in the middle of the room, Timmy walked in and stood off to the side.
“NOW!” Timmy shouted suddenly. Roger, who was hiding behind a book case, jumped through the air, and landed on the ON button of a big fan that he had pointed toward the middle of the room. A huge gust of wind blew through the room, and every single army-man was swept off his feet into the air, and out an open window on the other side.

Roger could barely believe that it had worked. They had successfully defeated an entire army, and had even had fun doing it. That night, Roger and Timmy celebrated by eating a whole bag of candy, while joking with each other and having a great time.
